Hope focuses a large portion of our mission resources upon Haiti. We want the members of our church to participate in a summer mission experience and Haiti is one of the most accessible (cheapest and closest) cross-cultural overseas mission opportunities available.
Haiti provides us everything we need in terms of a “barrier crossing†experience: geographically (crossing an ocean); racially (we are mostly white and Haiti is 99% black); economically (Haiti is the third poorest country in the world and the poorest of all in our hemisphere); and linguistically (Creole). We work under the auspices of a Haitian pastor named Charles Amicy, and we teach; build churches schools and clinics; and provide desperately needed medical services. We send a team to Haiti every year and a half.
